American Athlete ‘Pissed’ National Anthem Was Playing at Olympic Trials

A U.S. hammer thrower turned away from the American flag as the national anthem played while she and two other athletes stood on the podium at the Olympic trials Saturday, later saying she was “pissed” the “Star-Spangled Banner” played as she received her bronze medal.
Gwen Berry — who qualified for her second U.S. Olympic team during the trials — shifted to face the stands rather than the flag before holding up a black shirt that read, “Activist Athlete.”
“I feel like it was a set-up, and they did it on purpose,” Berry said of the anthem being played. “I was pissed, to be honest.
“They had enough opportunities to play the national anthem before we got up there,” Berry said in Oregon, where the trials are being held. “I was thinking about what I should do. Eventually I stayed there and I swayed, I put my shirt over my head.

  5. I’m sick of this shit with the national anthem. I was a member of the first US Jr karate team and also a member of the Sr team. There was nothing that made me feel better than to hear my countries anthem knowing that meant a win. If you are not proud to be an American get out of my country and go where you are proud of and we’ll see how happy you are then .Bottom line not proud to be American GOODBYE GET OUT AND DON’T GO AWAY WITH THE FEELING THAT YOU HAVE TO COME BACK

  6. What has happened to Olympic sports. I used to love watching and supporting. Proud of our US teams. That said, sadly I believe it time to boycott the Olympics, since they will not police themselves. It is, after all, the US, that’s the United States Olympic team. If they have animous or cannot stand proudly, respect their team, respect their flag and respect their country, they should be removed from the team……period! This includes social media posts. When you are part of a team, your words and actions reflect, impact the whole team and yes, country. They are sports ambassadors! Remove the dissidents now!

  18. This Gwen Berry does not have the right to represent our country. If she cannot show respect while the National Anthem is being played, then she has no right to represent our country.
    How dare she turn her back on the flag!! Anyone who feels this way should not be allowed in the Olympics. This is not a popularity contest, this is representing your country & if you are disrespectful, then you should not be allowed to participate. Let her go to another country

  19. Since she obviously objects to representing our country in the Olympics, she should be dropped from the team, along with any other “woke” athletes. Tell her and her “friends” to go try out for China’s team, we have no use for her or her attitude.
