A “highly credible whistleblower” from the CIA has come forward with bombshell allegations that the Agency bribed six of its scientific analysts with significant financial incentives to change their initial conclusion that COVID-19 sprung from a lab leak in Wuhan, China, to the zoonosis hypothesis.
The whistleblower, a “multi-decade, senior-level, current Agency officer,” provided the information to the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic (Select Subcommittee) and the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI).
According to the whistleblower, the CIA assigned seven “multi-disciplinary and experienced” officers with “significant scientific expertise” to a COVID-19 Discovery Team to investigate the origins of COVID-19.
The whistleblower told House investigators that at the end of its review, six of the seven members of the Team had concluded that “the intelligence and science were sufficient to make a low-confidence assessment that COVID-19 originated from a laboratory in Wuhan, China.”
The seventh, most senior member of the team was allegedly the only one who argued that COVID-19 originated naturally through zoonosis (an animal-to-human spillover event).
The whistleblower told lawmakers that the other six members of the team were given “a significant monetary incentive to change their position.”
Rep. Brad Wenstrup, the Chairman of the Coronavirus Committee, and Mike Turner, Chairman of the Intel Committee, sent letters to CIA Director Burns and former CIA Chief Operating Officer Makridis on Tuesday, requesting all documents and communications pertaining to the COVID Discovery Team.
“These allegations, from a seemingly credible source, require the Committees to conduct further oversight of how the CIA handled its internal investigation into the origins of COVID-19,” the Chairmen wrote in their letter to Burns. They requested that the information be produced no later than September 26, 2023.
UPDATE:
Rep. Wenstrup appeared on Fox News’ Ingraham Angle Tuesday night to discuss the whistleblower’s story.
