Amajor left-wing nonprofit has been providing financial support to multiple groups that have publicly defended Hamas’ mass terrorist attacks against Israel over the last several weeks.
According to the Daily Caller, the Tides Center has provided fiscal sponsorship to groups that range from voicing support for the Palestinian terrorists, to falsely accusing Israel of human rights violations. One such group celebrated Hamas, saying that the terrorist group “breached the apartheid wall that has imprisoned them for over 16 years, separating them from their land, their loved ones, their holy sites.”
The watchdog group Influence Watch describes “fiscal sponsorship” as “a process in which a sponsor organization is paid to act as an umbrella under which new center-left political groups may fundraise and operate prior to achieving recognition of tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), at which point they’re often spun off into standalone nonprofits.”
The full list of Tides’ fiscally sponsored projects is available on the nonprofit’s website. One of the groups is the Adalah Justice Project, which, on the day that the terrorist attacks first began, posted to Instagram an image of a bulldozer mowing down a section of Israel’s border barrier.
“Israeli colonizers believed they could indefinitely trap two million people in an open-air prison … no cage goes unchallenged,” the caption read, posted on October 7th. “The natural reaction to colonization and oppression is resistance.”
Another group sponsored by Tides is Palestine Legal, which released a statement on October 10th calling Hamas’ violence “one of the most significant acts of Palestinian resistance to Israel’s nearly eight decade long settler colonial project in Palestine.” The statement went on to falsely accuse Israel of genocide, claiming that the Jewish state is committing a “relentless attack by air, sea, and land against the civilian population in Gaza.”
Over the first weekend of the attacks, Hamas killed over 1,400 Israeli civilians, while also kidnapping children, elderly citizens, and other hostages. The war crimes committed by Hamas range from mass rapings of women to the beheading of dozens of babies. Yet despite the atrocities, numerous left-wing groups, activists, and politicians have voiced their support for Palestine, insisting that the Palestinians are simply engaging in “decolonization” against Israel. The worldwide support for Hamas has sparked a massive increase in anti-Semitic displays in big cities and on college campuses around the world, ranging from protests and riots to the destruction of pro-Israel materials.
