President Trump engaged in a conversation with the president of Ukraine about an investigation into an allegedly corrupt company Ukraine’s prosecutor already was reviewing, and that became a reason for Democrats in Congress to attempt – and fail – to impeach and remove him.
Then some fans of President Trump rioted at the Capitol, so the Democrats took their second bite – trying and failing again to impeach and remove Trump.
Now those casually convenient – and almost exclusively political – precedents are hitting Joe Biden.
After all, even though the GOP is not in the majority and cannot vote articles of impeachment routinely as did the Democrats against Trump, a new poll shows a lot of people back impeaching Biden over his border crisis and his Afghanistan blunder.
Paul Bedard in his Washington Secrets column explains the Rasmussen Reports results: “Exactly half of voters back impeaching President Joe Biden over his missteps on the U.S.-Mexico border and Afghanistan withdrawal, and they expect it to happen should the GOP take back control of Congress,” he reported.
The 50% who back impeachment for Biden includes 34% of the Democrats, he said.
“And if Republicans take back control of the House and Senate in the midterm elections, 45% expect that he will be impeached,” the report said.
Actually removing a president from office requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate, so unless the GOP would gain 17 or 18 seats in the midterms, that likely would not happen as Democrats would be expected to support Biden no matter the situation.
Nearly half of respondents, 47%, also said impeaching President Trump was a “bad thing.”
Some Republicans in the House and Senate already have called for impeachment hearings over Biden’s border disaster, which he created when he took office by canceling virtually all of the security measures used by President Trump.
In Afghanistan, his abrupt pullout left hundreds of Americans and thousands of America-supporting nationals behind to suffer at the hands of the terrorists in the Taliban, which immediately took over.
Further, billions of dollars worth of American war machinery, including attack helicopters and entire weapons programs, also were turned over to the terrorists in Biden’s pullout.
A commentary at the Gateway Pundit described the poll results as “shocking.”
It pointed out 50% of black voters and 58% of other non-white voters endorse a Biden impeachment.
It said, “Whether it is dangerous open borders, the 2.5 million illegals he allowed to cross into the country in ONE YEAR, his disgusting withdrawal from Afghanistan, his record inflation, or his complete lack of morals, Americans have had enough. Joe Biden is a failed president who is trying to destroy the United States.”
